All Conference Awards Announced

The SLIAC All Conference teams were announced today. The Panthers had 10 players selected to the All Conference Team, including 4 first team selections.

First Team Offense


Junior TE Zach Friedrich (Selah, WA) lead the conference in all receiving categories in 2008. Friedrich finished the season with 61 catches, 856 receiving yards, and 9 touchdowns, ranking 2nd in the NCAA for Tight Ends.




First Team Defense


Junior DE Alex "Bama" Holmes (Huntsville, AL) had a break out season in 2008. The explosive Holmes finished the season with 44 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 1 sack.






Senior Team Captain Grant Jarzynka (Cairo, NE) was selected first team middle linebacker. Jarzynka was all over the field this season, finishing the season 10th in the conference with total tackles with 67, 2.5 sacks, and 4 interceptions.







Junior DB Edgar Townsend (Kankakee IL) was selected first team cornerback, after not playing a game in 2007. Townsend finished the season with 8 interceptions, ranking 2nd overall in the NCAA.




Second Team Offense


Senior Team Captain QB Dominic Kegel (Hunters, WA) was last year's Conference MVP. This year Kegel passed for 1516 passing yards, 16 passing TDs, 554 rushing yards with 7 rushing TDs. Kegel finished the season with 2070 total yards and 20 total touchdowns.





Sophomore Center Timothy Burroughs (Stanton, CA) anchored a young offensive line in 2008. In his first year as a starter, Burroughs led an offensive line that ranked 3 in the conference in rushing, with nearly 200 yards a game.




Second Team Defense




Junior DT Bobby Jones (Miami, FL) was selected second team all conference after missing several games with injury. Jones finished the season with 3 sacks.






Junior Linebacker Garrett Young (Hillsboro, Il) was the leader of the defense that was ranked 2nd in the conference in total defense. Young finished the season with 49 tackles, and 3 sacks.




Sophomore DT Justin Harris (Greenville, Il) was a big part of the defensive success the Panthers had this season. Harris started the second half of the season after fellow all conference DT Bobby Jones went down with a season ending injury.

Honorable Mention Offense


Freshman Running Back Adonnis Brown (Denver, CO) was selected Honorable Mention all conference, after being moved from safety early in the season. Brown was an essential part of the Greenville offense that ranked 3rd in the conference in rushing.
