SR LB Garret Young (40) and SR DE Joe Andrews chase after a loose ball
The Greenville Panthers fell to 1-1 after a loss to Augustana College on Saturday 42-20. The Panthers got off to a slow start, going down 14-0 in the first quarter. But the offense came alive in the 2nd quarter, scoring on two big plays. Both plays came from RB/WR Keyrone Blanks (JR St. Robert, MO). The first Blanks ran to the perimeter and then broke into the open for a 69 yard touchdown run. Later in the quarter, Blanks threw a pass on a trick play over 50 yards to WR Daniel Cunningham (SR West Frankfort, IL) who was brought down just before the endzone, setting up a TD run by power back Adonis Brown (SO Denver, CO). The next big score came from CB Edgar Townsend (SR St. Anne, IL) who returned a punt 90 yards for a touchdown. After these big plays, the Panthers went into the half down 28-20. The second half was a different story, with the Vikings pulling away in a hard fought game.
After the game, head coach Eric Hehman told the team that when hard things happen on the field, or in life, we have to respond like men. The Panthers will be ready to respond next week in their home opener against Rose-Hulman (2-0).
The game is at 1pm CT at Francis Field in Greenville. Please come and cheer on the Panthers!
