Panthers Win Homecoming Game in Shootout

The GC Panthers (4-1 2-0) won again in thrilling fashion against conference foe MacMurray on Saturday. The victory came before a standing room only Homecoming crowd, with a final score of 38-30.

The game was a high scoring affair for both sides, with the Panthers being led in rushing by JR RB Anthony Ambers. Ambers (Apple Valley, CA) had 101 yards rushing on 14 carries and 2 TDs. Freshman QB Marcus Harris (Jackson, MO) made his debut, and split time with dual-threat JR QB Joel Lira (Lubbock, TX). The two QBs combined for 102 yards through the air. The majority of their passes went to All-American SR TE Zach Friedrich (Selah, WA), who finished with 5 catches for 46 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Panthers were led yet again by outstanding SR LB Garrett Young (Hillsboro, IL). Young finished with 6.5 tackles, including 1.5 sacks. SR DE Alex Holmes (Huntsville, AL) was relentless on the MacMurray backfield, totaling 2 sacks and 4 tackles for loss.

Also on Saturday, nearly 50 recruits were in attendance and got a taste of what Greenville Football is all about. Thanks to all the recruits and their families for coming out!

The Panthers are hoping to ride the momentum they have built into their next game against the always tough Huntingdon Hawks. The Panthers leave for Huntsville, AL on Friday morning for their 12:00pm game on Saturday.
