Athletic Annex Re-Opened with New State-of-the-Art Equipment

After just one week of being closed, the Greenville College Annex re-opened its doors Monday morning to unveil 35 brand new, state-of-the-art pieces of fitness equipment and a new hygienic floor.

This Annex upgrade is a project that Athletic Director, Doug Faulkner, has dreamed of for years and was only able to do after he sought the help of donors and an equipment supplier who offered a great discount. With their help, GC purchased the 35 FreeMotion pieces of equipment, which includes; five treadmills, three elliptical machines, two striders, four bikes, 14 weight machines, two squat racks, and five other pieces of workout equipment. There are now more treadmills and elliptical machines accessible. Effectively, the Annex is now a brand new workout facility for GC students, student athletes and fitness center members from the community. Members now have the opportunity to use the state-of-the-art fitness equipment in a monitored and clean facility. "Our hope with this upgrade is that students and community members will have access to outstanding fitness equipment that will help them stay healthy for a very long time," explained VP for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College, Randy Bergen.

GC's Annex upgrade was made possible by 1987 GC alum, Terry McGill. McGill currently lives in Taiwan and had befriended a man who owns a fitness equipment company and has a generous heart. McGill approached his friend about the idea of assisting Greenville College with a fitness center upgrade and the man responded immediately and positively and gave GC an incredible discount on all 35 brand new items.

Taking the lead, Athletic Director, Doug Faulkner, rallied his Panther teams to fundraise the remaining amount of money needed to pay for the equipment. As a result of the generous gift and Panther Athletics hard work, GC now proudly unveils the Annex equipment upgrade. As an incentive to come check out the Annex, Fitness Center Manager, Tatiana Garcia, is offering a free membership during the month of January to anyone who left the Annex. The Panthers football team will greatly benefit from this renovation, and look forward to spending a lot of time in the fitness center during this very important off season, as the Panthers look to repeat as conference champions.
