Alex Holmes is Conference Player of the Week


SR DE Alex Holmes was selected as UMAC Special Teams player of the week. Holmes blocked a PAT attempt with :07 left in the game to seal the win for the Panthers over Rose-Hulman.

Alex is the 3rd Panther to be selected as conference player of the week this season. Congratulations Alex!

Panthers Win 19-18 in Thriller

The Greenville Panthers (2-1) won their home opener vs. Rose-Hulman (2-1) on Saturday in thrilling fashion. With 7 second left on the clock, the Panthers blocked a Rose-Hulman PAT attempt that would have tied the game. The block game from a surge by SR defensive end Alex Holmes (Huntsville, AL) who drove the Rose-Hulman line back and knocked the ball out of the air, sealing the win for the Panthers.

JR RB Anthony Ambers led the Panthers in rushing with 69 yards, and JR RB Keytrone Blanks and SR RB Mark Mitchell both scored on the ground. In the air, the Panthers were led in receiving by All-American TE Zach Friedrich who had 5 catches for 54 yards and 1 TD.

Defensively, the Panthers were led in tackles yet again by SR Captain Garrett Young with 10. JR OLB Jumanne Bey and SR CB Edgar Townsend both had an interception in the game. SR DE Alex Holmes and SR DT Cory Bierdman both had sacks, as well as countless pressures on the Rose QB as the Panthers defensive line caused chaos all day.

The Panthers take this win into a bye week and then face their first conference opponent at Eurkea College on Oct. 3rd.

Panthers Host Rose-Hulman in Home Opener

The Greenville Panthers (1-1) host the Rose-Hulman Engineers (2-0) in the home opener Saturday. The Panthers won last years match-up and hope to continue that streak Saturday.

Panthers Fall 42-20

The Greenville Panthers fell to 1-1 after a loss to Augustana College on Saturday 42-20. The Panthers got off to a slow start, going down 14-0 in the first quarter. But the offense came alive in the 2nd quarter, scoring on two big plays. Both plays came from RB/WR Keyrone Blanks (JR St. Robert, MO). The first Blanks ran to the perimeter and then broke into the open for a 69 yard touchdown run. Later in the quarter, Blanks threw a pass on a trick play over 50 yards to WR Daniel Cunningham (SR West Frankfort, IL) who was brought down just before the endzone, setting up a TD run by power back Adonis Brown (SO Denver, CO). The next big score came from CB Edgar Townsend (SR St. Anne, IL) who returned a punt 90 yards for a touchdown. After these big plays, the Panthers went into the half down 28-20. The second half was a different story, with the Vikings pulling away in a hard fought game.

After the game, head coach Eric Hehman told the team that when hard things happen on the field, or in life, we have to respond like men. The Panthers will be ready to respond next week in their home opener against Rose-Hulman (2-0).

Panthers Leave Today for Auggie

Today the Panthers depart from Greenville at 6pm and journey to Rock Island, IL. The Panthers face the Augustana College Vikings (0-1) on Saturday at 6pm CT.

Last year GC fell to Auggie in a hard fought game, but the team is confident that this year it will be different. The Panther's had a great week of practice on both sides of the ball and look poised to improve their record to 2-0.

2 Panthers Named UMAC Player of the Week



After the impressive victory over Washington University, two Panthers were named UMAC Players of the Week.

Defensive Player of the Week
OLB Jumaane Bey made a game-changing play for Greenville in the Panthers' 17-7 win over Washington University (St. Louis). Bey's 25-yard interception return for a touchdown, one of two picks on the day, put Greenville up 14-0 midway through the third quarter

Special Teams Player of the Week
K Reid Ackerman helped Greenville to a 17-7 win over Washington University (St. Louis) on Saturday, making a his only field goal attempt and two PAT attempts. Ackerman's 30-yard boot with 1:36 left in the game clinched the victory for the Panthers.

Panthers Win Season Opener



St. Louis, MO- The Greenville College Panthers got their season off to a great start Saturday with a 17-7 victory over the Washington University Bears. This was the first win over the Bears in school history.

Washington University’s defense spent almost the entire first quarter on the field as Greenville had a 12:27-2:40 advantage in time of possession. GC's defense, which had allowed just 48 yards in the first quarter, continued to control the game and allowed just 10 yards on six plays in the second quarter. Washington U. was limited to 58 yards of total offense in the first half.

Greenville (1-0) got on the scoreboard for the lone score of the first half as Rendell Flood caught a 19-yard pass from Austin Teer with four seconds left to make it 7-0. GC gained 159 yards of offense in the first half, and spent 23:37 on the field in the opening 30 minutes of play.

The Panthers made it 14-0 as Jumanne Bey intercepted WU junior quarterback Stephen Sherman and returned it 25 yards for the touchdown midway through the third quarter. The interception for Greenville was its third of the game.

Late in the 4th quarter, a 29-yard field goal by Greenville’s Reid Ackerman with 1:26 left secured the victory and pushed the score to 17-7. The Panthers held the Bears once more on defense, and then ran the clock down by kneeling.

10 different Panthers carried the ball on offense. QB Joel Lira (Lubbock, TX) led the Panthers in rushing with 49 yards. QB Austin Teer (Abbotsford, BC) led the Panthers in passing, completing 4 passes for 77 yards and 1 TD. All-American TE Zach Friedrich (Selah, WA) had 3 catches for 58 yards.

On defense, LB Randy Mixon (Jacksonville, FL) had a team high 7 tackles. Senior defensive end Kenyon Klousia (St. Louis, MO) had 2 sacks.

Greenville College travels next week to Rock Island, IL to face the Augustana College Vikings (0-1).
