JV Panthers Fall to the Bears 21-6

The fist game of the season did not end how many of the Panthers expected Monday afternoon. The Wasington Univeristy (MO) Bears (1-0) proved to be too much, defeating the JV Panthers (0-1) 21-6.

The Bears jumped out to an early lead in the ifrst quarter using a reverse pass to make to score 7-0. After that the Panthers defense regrouped and wouldn't allow another score all half.

The Panther offense could not string together consecutive positive plays until the fourth quarter. That's when SO QB Greg Schimke (Phoenix, AZ) led a drive that was finished by FR RB Mike Bryant's (Mt. Vernon, IL) touchdown run.

After the game Head JV Coach Aaron Mingo talked about the game, "We've been waiting a long time for this. It's been nine months since we have had a chance to play a football game, it was great." He continued, "We have a special group of guys who are learning how to compete at the highest level. Once they figure out how to do that, the sky is the limit."

The JV Panthers next game is Monday September 12 at Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute, IN. Kick-Off is 4PM CST. The varsity Panthers take on Millikin University this Saturday September 10th at 1PM.
