After spotting the Saints 27 points the Greenville College Panthers (0-2, 0-1 UMAC) fell short in their comback losing their first UMAC game 30-26. It was the College of St. Scholastica (2-0, 1-0 UMAC) that looked like the defending conference champions by scoring 20 points in the first half and keeping Greenville out of the endzone. After another Saints touchdown the Panthers finaly showed their claws, out scoring CSS 26-10.
After a timely stop by the defense, Greenville had the ball down 4 with 2:10 left in the game. They needed to drive 62 yards and score to finish one of the greatest comebacks in school history. After 9 plays the Panthers faced a third down from their own 24 with 4 seconds left. A Saints sack ended the comeback and the game.
Brendan Chambers (San Clemente, CA) scored 3 of the 4 touchdowns and compiled 177 yards of total offense. SO running backs Immanuel Gamble (St. Louis, MO) and Bobby Hughley (New York, New York) rushed for 78 and 94 yards respectively. The defense was led by SR LB Kiso Faletufuga (San Diego, CA) who had 6 tackles and a sack. FR DL DeMarcus Greene (East St. Louis, IL) played a great game as well. He had 4.5 tackles and a timely 4th quarter fumble recovery.
The Saints we led by SR QB Alex Thiry who threw for 292 yards and 3 touchdowns. Their defense was led by LB Sean Graskey who had 8.5 tackles and 2.5 TFL's.
Next week the Panthers host UMAC foe Westminster College (MO). Kickoff is at 1PM at Francis Field in Greenville, IL.
