It was the Panther defense that set the tone for the entire game. The first quarter saw two interceptions and one fumble recovery by the Greenville defense. A SO K Josh Frewin (Payson, AZ) 23 yard FG and a 16 yard JR RB Bobby Hughley (New York, NY) touchdown run gave the Panthers a 10-7 lead after one quarter.
The second quarter saw the Panthers explode offensively. Hughley started the Panther second quarter scoring with a 3 yard touchdown run. SO QB Brendan Chambers (San Clements, CA) followed suit with his own 18 yard touchdown run, his first of the day. The last touchdown of the quarter came from a 79 yard pass from Chambers to SR TE Demontrez Simington. A late Saints field goal gave the Panthers a 31-10 halftime lead.
After a quiet third quarter the Panthers held on to a 31-17 lead. This was until Frewin's 36 yard field goal. The final score came when FR WR Tre' Lewis (Beleville, IL) took the pitch for 31 yards into the end zone.
The Panthers would finish with 522 yards of total offense. Hughey finished the game with 27 rushes for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns. Chambers was 9-16 for 126 and a touchdown, while running the ball 9 times for 81 yards and a touchdown.
The Panther defense forced seven Saint turnovers during the game and held the offense to 55 yards rushing. SR Safety John Smith (Aurora, IL) had 2 interceptions on the day to complement his 4 tackles. It was SO LB Tyler Penn (Richmond, IN)who led the Panther defense with 8 tackles and 1 sack. SR LB Kiso Faletufuga (San Diego, CA), SO CB Anthony Everett (Chicago, IL) and FR CB Jamethis Blackshire (Shreveport, LA) all intercepted Presentation passes.
Greenville finishes the regular season on a seven game winning streak. The Panthers have placed themselves in a good position for a National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Victory Bowl game next Saturday. The official announcement will be made Monday.
